Romeo, Romeo, where art thou?
Drama involves the study of one's complete human resources in one medium, and is the art form that encompasses life in miniature. The College offers introductory courses with a unique approach incorporating academic study, critical observation of plays and production experience. Instructors are working professionals in the theater, bringing day-to-day creative experiences to the classroom and production settings. This integrated approach to drama encourages a genuine and practical expression of faith in the learning process.
The opening of the new North Academic wing in Jan. 2005 provided the drama program at King’s with a suite of dedicated spaces for drama classes and play production. The Drama Studio can be used as a flexible “black box” theatre for audiences of up to 80. When a portable wall is stowed, the N102 Lecture Theatre seats an audience of up to 140 to see plays presented in the adjacent Drama Studio. Together, the two spaces form an intimate proscenium theatre which has proven popular with local high school and community theatre productions as well. Ancillary spaces for drama include a scenery and properties workshop, a costume shop, control booths, dressing rooms, a production office, and storage space for drama supplies and equipment.
