Secondary Education: B.Ed. After Degree
QUALITY CHRISTIAN TEACHER EDUCATION
The King's University College is a small, fully accredited, degree-granting undergraduate Christian university. The King's Secondary Education program blends theory, reflective practice and innovative program design. It emphasizes curriculum planning, learning theory, and literacy throughout the curriculum, with a particular interest in math/science pedagogy. The program also includes 18 weeks of teaching practicum.
The program normally requires two academic years to complete and graduates are eligible to receive professional teaching certification from Alberta Education. Graduates are qualified to teach in junior/senior high school classrooms in Alberta, other Canadian provinces, the United States, and overseas.
The Secondary Education program offers a sound mix of skills, developed within the context of a caring community. Because our Secondary Education program has a maximum enrolment of 35 students per year, you will receive personal attention from your professors, including practicum supervision. You will be helped to develop a clear Christian philosophy of education as you acquire the knowledge, skills and attributes required of teachers in today's complex school environment.
SKILLED PROFESSORS & MASTER TEACHERS
Only academically-qualified professors with advanced degrees and years of professional teaching experience instruct full-time in our programs. These Christian academics are complemented by sessional instructors and Master Teachers who are currently employed as classroom teachers. You will receive a very practical and up-to-date approach to teaching, supported by sound academic theory from many experienced teachers.

REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of a three-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution is required, which is why the program is designated as an after degree.
- Minimum GPA of 2.50 on the Alpha 4.00 scale (or equivalent) for the last 60 credits of the first degree.
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents.
- Essay (750-1000 words) outlining the applicant’s philosophy of Education or EDUC 300 or equivalent.
- Admission is also dependent upon a successful interview with the Dean of the Faculty of Education.
MAJORS AND MINORS
For applicants to the Bachelor of Education Secondary program, at least 30 credits of a teaching major and 9 credits of a teaching minor must be present in prior study. Acceptable major/minor teaching areas in the first degree include but are not limited to the following:
Biology/Environmental Studies*, Chemistry, CTS: Business*, CTS: Computing Science, English Language Arts, General Sciences*, Mathematics, Music, and Social Studies*.
*If presenting courses from more than one subject, at least three subjects must be presented with senior courses in at least two.
Additional minor teaching areas include:
Art, Drama, Physical Education, Physics*, or Second Languages*.
* must be completed before admission.
Students are required to complete a teaching major (33 credits) and teaching minor (18 credits) using credits submitted from the previous degree and up to 12 credits within the Bachelor of Education Program.
APPLICATION DEADLINES
B.Ed. applications are considered for the Fall term only. This program has limited space and admission is competitive. Applications are closed when the program is filled. Admission decisions will be released on two dates: March 31 and May 15. The program is normally filled by June 15.
