Psychology
"The unexamined life is not worth living" - Socrates
The Psychology Department of The King's University College offers a four-year B.A. with a psychology major, and a three-year B.A. degree with a psychology concentration.
In keeping with the mission of the College, the objectives of the programs and the courses in psychology are as follows:
- To develop a Christian approach to psychology based on a view of humanity that is scripturally directed and theoretically articulated.
- To provide a broad and deep grounding in the core concepts and theories of the discipline.
- To inform that grounding in the discipline from the broader perspective gained through the foundation and breadth elements of all King's programs; that is, to use the liberal arts focus of King's to develop in students an awareness of the context of psychology and its role among the other disciplines.
- To develop a critical approach to the discipline. This involves recognition of the assumptions, values and beliefs which shape the theories and methods of the discipline and the implications of those assumptions for the theory and practice of psychology.
- To learn to use and to evaluate approaches to psychological research.
- To provide opportunity for encountering psychology as it is practiced, through speakers, field trips, shadowing, volunteer work and research projects.
- To graduate students who are academically prepared for entrance into graduate programs in academic, clinical, or counselling psychology (four-year program only).
- To graduate students ready to move into entry-level human services jobs (three- and four-year programs).
