Bald Eagles Project
Annual Athletic Community Service Project
When the Eagles Women’s Basketball Team started their “Bald Eagles” Fundraiser in October, 2007, none of them envisioned how far it would go!
From the impact it had on the players and the community, the King's Athletic Department has decided to implement an annual “Bald Eagles Project.” This will help fulfill the vision and the mission for Athletics, and compliment the values of The King's University College; where service encourages the coaches and athletes to better understand their compassionate role within global issues, justice and stewardship.
“Our goal as a coaching staff is to have the King’s athletes get involved in some service capacity each year outside of their competitive sport, and the Bald Eagles Project will serve that purpose.” stated King’s Athletic Director, Craig Wilsman speaking on behalf of all of the Head Coaches.
The Bald Eagle Project will kick off the school year for the Welcome Weekend for Athletic teams, during the last weekend in August or first weekend in September. The event will feature: a designated Bald Eagles community service project, fundraising, food, and challenges for teams and individual athletics.
The event will be designed for the King's University Athletes to be introduced to the bigger picture of where they fit into King’s. Each player’s unique gifting and importance to Athletics and the important administrative details that each athlete will be responsible for will also be discussed, so that their 5-year stay is successful.
Anyone may recommend to any King’s Coach and/or to the Athletic Department about an idea for the focus of “next year’s” Bald Eagles Project. The Bald Eagles Project must fulfill the following criteria:
- Represent a worthy cause
- Be flexible for over 100 people (coaches/athletes) to be involved.
- Be time manageable (must have a set start & end date)
- Fulfill Bald Eagle Project mission:(require servanthood, humility, courage, etc.; so teamwork is required.)
- Capable to have fundraising attached to it.
- Initial Saturday event will be no longer than 3-hours in length.
The Bald Eagles Project will culminate annually with Athletic Banquet. The new focus for the upcoming year will also be announced at the year-end banquet in April.
If you know of another worthy cause that the Athletic Department can support please contact the Athletic Department or Athletic Director at 780-465-8345 or athletics@kingsu.ca.
