Weekend Summary

Men's Volleyball -Eagles Sweep the Rustlers

The men continued their push for a playoff spot over the past weekend as they swept the Lakeland Rustlers.  Traveling to Lakeland on Friday, the team came out very lethargic in the first set and gave away the set 25-19.  Realizing they were in for a battle, the men picked up their mental intensity and won in five tough sets 25-17, 12-25, 25-18, 15-7.  William Gelderman was chosen as the Player of the Match.

Playing at home Saturday night, the Eagles came out with passion and fire right from the first whistle and dominated the Rustlers in every aspect of the game.  With Jesse Vander Meulen leading the charge they won in four sets 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20 and he was selected the Player of the Game.

The Eagles close out regular season play this upcoming weekend as they host the Grande Prairie Wolves in a two game set.  Game time on Friday is 8:00pm.

Women's Volleyball - Eagles Split with the Rustlers

This past weekend The Kings University Eagles took on the Lakeland Rustlers.  The weekend resulted in a split between the two teams, the Eagles winning Friday and then losing to the Rustlers on Saturday.  The Eagles arrived Friday in Lakeland’s home gym eager to play.  However, the Rustlers won the first set and second set 17-25 and 21-26.  The Eagles fought back and started playing more consistently winning the 3rd and 4th sets 25-22 and 25-19 resulting in a play down in the 5th.  The Eagles were able to finish strong and won the 5th set 15-9, taking home the win for Friday night.  The ACAC Player of the Game went to the setter, Porcha Diggs, who demonstrated great defense and dominated at the net with blocks and powerful dumps.

On Saturday the Eagles hosted the Rustlers in their home gym.  The Eagles started off strong winning the first set 25-22.  The Eagles starting losing their momentum and didn’t play to their best of abilities resulting in the Rustlers winning the 2nd set 25-19.  The match continued with the Rustlers taking the 3rd set 25-22 and the Eagles pulling out the win in the 4th set, 25-21.  The game went to a 5th set again resulting in the Rustlers defeating the Eagles15-11.  Player of the Game was awarded to 3rd year libero Anita Birkland for her amazing defensive play.

The King’s Eagles play Grande Prairie next weekend as they fight for a top 6 spot in the ACAC standings.
