10.24.11 - Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season
On Friday, October 21 The King’s University College women’s soccer team fought hard against the top ranked team in Canada: the NAIT Ooks.  Even though the score in the end showed a defeat of 5-0, it still felt like a win in many ways to the Eagles.  One small victory for the Eagles was preventing NAIT from attaining a single corner kick in the whole first half, a feat that has never been achieved before.  The Eagles were able to challenge the opposition in the front and itt was a challenge the Ooks were most likely not expecting to face that day, making them earn the win they received.  One player from the Eagles that deserves recognition is Katie Wallbaum.  She was a force in the back, making many saves that seemed to defy reality.  Katie's dedication and continual drive to be the best she can be definitely earned her the recognition as Player of the Game!  Overall, the game was a challenge for both teams and the resulting score does not show the heart that each team put in that day.

On this past Saturday the women’s soccer team played their last game for the season against the Grande Prairie Wolves on their home pitch.  The Eagles went to the game ready to leave everything on the field.  After a quick goal from the Wolves striker, the Eagles rebounded with a good fight.  The Eagles fought back with some close opportunities against the Wolves defense and goalie.  Unfortunately the Eagles were not able to finish their attempts.  Besides not being able to finish their shots, the Eagles played a strong defensive and offensive match losing 2-0, but finishing off the season with intensity that proved their love for the game.  The Player of the Game went to a well-deserved 5th year player, Katie Wallbaum.

The Eagles are sad to say goodbye to both Katie Wallbaum and Maria Collins who finished their 5th and final season along with Kelly Eggink, Sam Eggink, and Kathleen Schultz who are all graduating this coming spring.  They also say goodbye to their Assistant Coach Merran Whitely.  The Eagles have now wrapped up their 2011 ACAC outdoor season and will begin their indoor season in the EDSA (Edmonton District Soccer Association) league starting this Thursday and running until late March.

10.18.11 - King's @ MacEwan
This past Saturday the women's soccer team took on the Grant MacEwan Griffins at Johnny Bright Stadium, the Griffins' home field.  It was a well fought game on both sides keeping the game scoreless until the last minute of the first half.  This was when the Griffins put a hard earned corner into the back of the net.  The final score was 3-0, after two more strong MacEwan finishes. The Player of the Game for the King's Eagles went to Jocelyn Dronkelaar for her hard work on offense.

The team wraps up their season this upcoming weekend hosting NAIT on Friday at 4 pm, and then Grande Prairie on Saturday at 2 pm in 5th year players Katie Wallbaum and Maria Collins' final ACAC game.

09.23-24.11 - King's @ Keyano
This past weekend the women’s soccer team headed up to Fort McMurray to face the Keyano Huskies.  Friday’s match had the Eagles down 1-0 moments into the game and the rest of the first half did not bode much better.  Half time proved to be a turning point for the Eagles and they came out strong and elevated their level of play for the last 45.  Despite controlling the ball for much of the second half the Eagles still had difficultly generating any chances.  In the last 20 minutes the Eagles were able to pour on the pressure even more and finally found their stride.  Although they had many chances, Sherry Rosychuk was the only Eagle able to find the back of the net.  In spite of the excellent play by Kelly Eggink, who was awarded Player of the Game, the Eagles were unable to capture 3 points and lost to the Huskies 3-1.

On Saturday the women’s team had a rematch with the Huskies.  The Eagles fought a strong battle and were able to win the majority of the 50/50 balls.  Unfortunately the Eagles were unable to finish their opportunities, losing 1-0 to the Keyano Huskies. First year Sherry Rosychuck won a well-deserved Player of the Game for ball control and ability to dominate the middle of the field.

The Eagles take on the Concordia Thunder next at home on Saturday, September 24th at Noon!

09.16.11 - King's @ NAIT
On Friday September 16th the women’s soccer team took to the NAIT pitch for 90 minutes of intense soccer.  After some initial rain and hail play began with some extremely windy conditions.  Despite missing players the Eagles women played well, going into the half down 3-0.  In the second half the ladies fought hard, but NAIT found a groove and the game ended unsuccessfully for the Eagles.  Katie Wallbaum won a well deserved ACAC Player of the Game, making some incredibly difficult saves.  The team came out of the game having learned a lot and look forward to facing the number one nationally rank team again but next time on their home turf.

09.17.11 - King's @ Grande Prairie
On Saturday September 17th, the women's soccer team battled against the Grande Prairie Wolves.  The game started off primarily in the Eagles end with the team determined to fight hard to regain control.  During the first half of the game the Eagles were strong defensively, despite the score at half being 3-1 for the Wolves.  During the second half the King's Eagles endured through the Wolves tough forward line with the help of defender Kelly Eggink who was named the ACAC Player of the Game for her strong will and ability to win challenges.  A hard effort was shown by both teams and ended with the Wolves winning 5-2, with goals scored for King's by 1st years Sherry Rosychuk and Michele Greer.

The Eagles head off to Fort McMurray this upcoming weekend to take on the Keyano Huskies.

09.09.11 - King's @ CUCA
On Friday, the woman's soccer squad opened their ACAC season against Concordia.  All the players, whether they played 90 minutes or not, felt the heat of a 30 degree Celsius afternoon.  After the first half, the score was 3-0 for Concordia, with two goals being scored of corner kicks and the other a cross through the middle.  During the second half, the King's Eagles came out strong, and shut Concordia out for the last 45 minutes.  King's ACAC Player of the Game was Jodi Bazak, a talented first year player. Though the end result of the game was a 3-0 loss, this was a strong finish against the fourth-place team at nationals last year.

09.10.11 - MacEwan @ King's
On September 10th the King’s women’s soccer team took on the Grant MacEwan Griffins at home.  Despite the heat, fans were out to cheer on the Eagles in their second ACAC game of the season.  The Griffins proved to be tough competitors with their shoulder to shoulder play; however the Eagles were physical right back.  The Eagles played a defensive game and shut the Griffins down on many of their corner kicks.  Unfortunately a few quick Grant MacEwan players were able to find the net with a final score of 3-0 for the Griffins.  Despite the loss the Eagle’ are looking optimistically at the upcoming season as they have picked up some skilled rookies that will contribute to the team. One of these rookies is Sherry Rosychuck who received ACAC Player of the Game for King’s

The Eagles are at NAIT on Friday, September 16th at 5 pm, and then host the GPRC Wolves on Saturday, September 17th at 2 pm!
