My School Rocks - Video Contest!

Win great prizes for the best video!

King's students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate in the My School Rocks! Video contest 2010. The contest is sponsored by CHEC (Christian Higher Education Canada) and features some great prizes from both CHEC and King's.

There are two levels to the contest - the first level is the one run here at King's. Videos entered in the King's portion of the contest are subject to less rules. As you might guess, the prizes are a little easier to win and they are a little smaller. Videos will be judged based upon popularity and you will have opportunity to cast your vote. Details as to voting will be released shortly.

All steps must be completed and all videos received no later than February 28, 2010, 11:59pm.

King's prizes are as follows:
1st Prize - $350
2nd Prize - $150
3rd Prize - King's Bookstore Gift Certificate

In order to enter the King's portion of the contest your video must be in good taste and reflect positively on King's. It can be funny, it can be a musical - pretty much whatever you want to do. The only thing we're asking is for you to put the King's website at the end of your video.

In order to enter your video in the King's contest, you need to sign a waiver which gives King's full permission to use the video in promoting the school, if it so chooses. That means you need to have the permission of those who appear in your video. So be sure to get everyone who appears in your video to sign the form. You can download it here.

Here's how to submit your waiver:
In person to Diana Kyle in Enrolment at King's.
By email. You will need to scan the waiver with the signatures you have collected. All are required.
You can fax it to 780-465-3534 - attention Diana Kyle

Once your video is complete, and you have submitted your waiver to the Enrolment Department, go ahead and upload your video to Youtube. BE SURE to send the link to the video to Diana at diana.kyle@kingsu.ca

CHEC Video Contest Details

The CHEC portion of the contest has a few more rules but the prizes are much larger. There are two categories of prizes - one for "popularity" and the other for "talent."

Talent Category

Gold: win a $2000 scholarship*
Silver: $300
Bronze: $200

Popularity Category

Gold: $1000 scholarship*
Silver: $200
Bronze: $100

*Note: The scholarship prize will be given as a credit and will apply over two semesters and will expire as of Dec 31, 2011.

In order to qualify for the CHEC portion of the contest, videos must meet the qualification criteria. The biggest criteria to pay attention to is that you must have permission to use any music that is not original. If you use copyrighted music without receiving permission you will not qualify for the CHEC portion of the contest or its prizes. We encourage you to make your video so that it qualifies for all the prizes.

CHEC Qualification Criteria:

Create a video in any style that tells your family and friends how great our school is and enter your video before February 28, 2010. Some sample video ideas are available through the links below.

Winners will be announced on April 2, 2010.

Here's a sample of a video done last year here at King's. Please note that the rules for the CHEC video contest reflect a different outcome than what you see here due to the use of copyrighted music. This type of video would qualify for the King's prizes but not the ones offered by CHEC. Contest rules should be thoroughly reviewed.
