Student Association

The Students’ Association (SA) is a student group whose goals are to include students in the governing and decision-making processes of The King's University College, and help build community among the entire student body through clubs and events.  All students who attend The King’s University College are considered part of the Student Fellowship, which is overseen by the SA.  Each spring the student body elects four executive members: President, VP Administration, VP Communications, and VP Finance and Clubs.  The first year rep is elected in the fall, and the event coordinators and level managers are appointed via an application process.
If you would like to know any more details, just stop by the SA office (right beside the Student Activity Centre) or send any one of the members an email.

2011-12 Students' Association Members

President, Heather Van Haren
sa.president@kingsu.ca

Heather.jpgMy name is Heather Van Haren, and I’m from Lacombe, Alberta.  I am in my fourth year of a Biology degree here at King’s.  If you looked for me during my spare time I would probably be baking something in the kitchen, backpacking in the Rocky Mountains, or planning my next trip to another province or country!
As President, I have the opportunity to be involved with the governing bodies of King’s as an advisor to the Board of Governors and a voting member on the Senate.  In order for me to bring student concerns to these bodies, I need you to tell me what improvements you would like to see around King’s. Feel free to stop me in the hallway, send me an email, or stop by during our office hours to let us know what your concerns are.
Another part of my job description is to oversee the general functioning of the Students’ Association.  I chair our weekly meetings, and check with the other members to ensure that they are fulfilling their roles.  Thankfully, we have a great team and I don’t expect this to be a problem at all!

Vice President Administration, Stacey Brandsma
sa.vpadmin@kingsu.ca

Stacey.jpgMy name is Stacey Brandsma and I am the VP Administration for this upcoming year!  I am a fourth year student in the Bachelor of Science Faculty, with a major in Biology and a minor in Theology.  I have been involved in a variety of clubs and leadership positions here at King’s.  My position allows me to get to know another level of King’s, which I am extremely excited about.  I attend Board, Senate, Faculty Council, and a variety of other meetings and there, along with Heather Van Haren, I represent the views of the student body.  At the Board, we discuss things pertaining to the whole of King's, whereas Senate is mainly academic areas and Faculty Council is faculty issues.  In addition, I also manage the Student Activity Center (or what you know as the SAC), which means that if you would like to book it for any function, come and talk to me! So if you have any administrative issues that you would like to have addressed, please come and talk to me!

Vice President Communication, Darren Binnema
sa.vpcomm@kingsu.ca

Darren.jpgMy name is Darren Binnema. I'm currently in my 4th year of the BSc. Chemistry program. I am a commuter student and originally grew up in Surrey, British Columbia. This is my first year on the Students' Association and I am greatly looking forward to serving the student body as best as I can!
As VP Communication, my job is to bring the SA to the students, and the students to the SA. If you have any questions or suggestions I am the primary person to talk to, though anyone on the SA will be willing to listen as well! I am also responsible for organizing the Event Coordinators and assisting them with the planning of SA events. All advertising for the SA is also done by the VP of Communications. A full job description can be found in a student agenda or at the SA office.

Level Manager, Julie Paquette
sa.level@kingsu.ca

Julie.jpgJulie Paquette is Co-manager of Level Coffee House. This is her second year as a Manager at Level, and before that she was the assistant manager. A fourth-year student at King's, Julie is about to complete an ENVS degree with a concentration in Sociology. So, she loves coffee, people, and the environment. She thinks they all go very well together. Or at least they could, if we all made smart choices about where we buy our coffee from and pay attention to how it is produced. Feel free to talk to Julie (or her partner in crime Arielle) about anything Level-related that you would like to see happening at King's. Drop them a line at sa.level@kingsu.ca or by phoning Level at 780.465.8343.
