Transfers from Bible College
WHY choose The King's University College?
The Mission of The King's University College is to provide students with a university education in the arts, sciences, and selected professional areas from a Biblical perspective. The College strives to be an academic community which integrates the Christian faith with teaching, learning, research, and college life, in an environment characterised by academic excellence and a personal approach to students. Regardless of your personal and academic background, King's can help you develop an integrated personal, spiritual, and intellectual understanding of who you are, and the world around you.
WHO is eligible to apply to King's?
Bible College students who plan to continue their education at the university level are invited to apply to The King's University College. You can apply at any point during your program. After receiving your high school and all post-secondary transcripts, you will be notified of an admissions decision. Your Bible College work can help you gain admittance, even if you attended a non-accredited school.
WHERE can I transfer from?
Transfer credit is granted to admitted students from schools accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. You can check whether your school is listed as an accredited member on their site.
Education students note: Provincial Teacher Service Qualification Boards (and, in some cases, certification boards) do not generally recognise Bible College work that is not listed in a provincial transfer guide. That can affect your salary if you get a job as a teacher. Consequently, students who plan to get Bachelor of Education degrees should discuss their transfer options with the King's Education department.
WHAT will transfer?
The nature of the program taken at Bible College does not determine transferability. Rather, The King's University College will assess transcripts on a course by course basis.
Courses must be relevant to the student's program requirements at The King's University College and may be assigned less credit than that granted by the issuing institution. Please note the following in this regard:
INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS: Instructors must have an advanced degree in the subject being taught. A Masters degree is expected for introductory courses; a PhD for upper level courses.
GRADES: Only courses with a 5 (9-point scale) or C+ or better in the applicant's area of concentration or a 4 (9-point scale) or C- or better in other courses will transfer.
CORE COURSES: Core requirements in theology must be met by The King's University College core courses or close equivalents.
COURSE TYPE: Courses of a professional nature (e.g., missions, counselling, personal development) or restricted denominational nature will not be transferable.
COURSE CREDITS: Courses with 3 or 4 credit hours will transfer as 3 credit courses. Courses with 2 credit hours may be combined to grant credit (4=3 credits). Where different disciplines are combined, unassigned credits will be granted.
MAXIMUM CREDITS: Maximum credit available will not exceed 60 credits and one half of the courses in a concentration/major.
Students can, then, transfer up to 20 courses into King's towards their degree programs. The primary factor in determining transferability is the nature of the courses completed.
WHEN should I apply?
The deadline for applying to King's is August 15 for September study, and December 1 for January. Students interested in completing a King's degree are advised to consult King's admissions personnel as soon as possible to assist in course selection during the remainder of their studies at Bible College.
