The SIN is a nine-digit number that you need to work in Canada or to have access to government programs and benefits.Applying for a SIN
The process of obtaining a SIN is quite simple. Applications can be made in person to the Human Resource Centre of Canada. The closest one to King’s is located at:6325 Gateway Boulevard

Documents needed for SIN Application
You need to provide a primary document to apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN), replace your card, or amend your SIN record. A primary document is an official document that proves your identity and status in Canada. Service Canada will need to see the ORIGINAL of your primary document. If the name on this document is different from the name you currently use, you will also need to provide a supporting document.
To work on-campus, you will also need a contract of employment filled out by your on-campus employer. Please visit the Coordinator of International Student Programs for this form.
You will need to submit the following primary documents with your application:
• Work Permit - issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) if you have one
• Study Permit - issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada
• A contract of employment from a learning institution or employer on campus
• A completed application form
Note: As an International Student you will receive a temporary SIN card that begins with the number "9". Your SIN card expires on the date indicated on the front of the card. The SIN card also expires on the date your study permit expires.
