Money troubles?It’s not too early to start thinking about next year!

A lot of students don’t know that some scholarship deadlines are as early as October, with many having deadlines in the first semester. Here are just some of the scholarships that you may be eligible for. Drop by the Financial Aid office in Enrolment Services to find out more, or pick up an application. Free money is the best kind. Act before it’s gone. 



Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program
Offers one bursary for $2,000 and four bursaries each valued at $500
Deadline: September 15, 2012

United Way Essay Contest
What is it? A sponsored internship for the Edmonton Capital Region
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: May 15


Eligibility criteria:
post-secondary student
submission of max. 1,000 word essay                  

Husky Aboriginal Education Awards
Provided by: Husky Oil
Amount: $3,000
Application deadline: May 3

Award Criteria:
Aboriginal ancestry in Canada
Demonstrate Financial Need
Are enrolled in a qualified program of study (undergraduate)
Career intent in oil and gas industry

Education for Life Bursary
Provided by: Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities
Amount: $200-$800
Application Deadline: June 30

This award is for you if:
- Are a resident of Alberta living with a disability
- Member of the ACCD by the application deadline

Criteria includes:
- Motivation
- Economic circumstance

Belcourt Brosseau Métis Award

Provided by: Edmonton Community Foundation
Amount: typically between $2,000- $9,000
Application deadline: March 31

This award is for you if:

You are Métis
Demonstrate Financial Need
Are enrolled in a qualified program of study (undergraduate)

Criteria include:
Community involvement
Involved in the Métis community
Alberta Resident
Volunteer and Leadership Experience

Anne Falk Memorial Fund

Provided by: Edmonton Mennonite Center for Newcomers
Amount: $500
Application deadline: April 15

This award is for you if:

You are a first or second generation immigrant
Living and studying in Edmonton
Pursuing health related field of study

GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program
Provided by: GE Foundation
Amount: $4,000 per year scholarship for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of your degree
Application Deadline: March 15

This scholarship is for you if you are:
- Aboriginal or
- persons with disabilities or
- women in engineering programs

who are:
- Canadian residents
- Full-time, first-year undergraduate student
- Are studying engineering or business/management
- Have high academic performance
- Demonstrate financial need

Glamour’s 2010 Top 10 College Women Competition
Provided by: Glamour Magazine
Amount: $3,000 cash prize, recognition in Glamour and a trip to New York City
Application Deadline: December 1, 2009

This scholarship is for your if you:
- are a female in her 3rd year of study
- leadership experience
- academic excellence
- inspiring goals

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Provided by: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program
Amount: up to $7,000 renewable for up to 4 years
Application Deadline: February 1

This scholarship is for you if you:
- are involved in the community and humanitarian service
- demonstrate leadership
- participate in sport
- have courage in overcoming obstacles

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship

Provided by: Earth Day Canada
Amount: $5,000
Application Deadline: January 31

This scholarship is for you if:

Are currently in their graduating year or graduated in the last two years
Are enrolling as a first-time post-secondary student for the 2012-2013 academic school year
Are involved in environmental work and leadership through school and community initiatives
Canadian citizen or permanent resident

The Peter Elzinga Family Foundation Scholarship

Provided By: The Peter Elzinga Family Foundation
Amount: $600-$2,000
Application Deadline: June 1

This scholarship is for you if:

You are an Alberta resident

You are:

  1. a person away from formal education and who desires to further their education. This could be for re-training, upgrading of work skills, or change of employment
  2. Any individual who desires to continues their education at any level

Criteria include:
            Financial need
            Community Involvement
            Leadership Skills
