NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPLY FOR GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

(CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC)

Grad ScholarshipStudents interested in pursuing graduate studies are encouraged to seek funding from one of Canada’s three major research grant agencies: NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR.

Each agency offers Master’s level awards for which King’s has a quota we are allowed to nominate. The application process is highly competitive but successful applicants receive a substantial stipend ($17,300 - $17,500) toward their graduate studies.

Specific eligibility criteria and application procedures can be found on each agency’s program specific web pages at the links below:

NSERC PGS/CGS
SSHRC CGS
CIHR CGS

Students enrolled at an eligible institution with an application quota must submit an application for these awards through their home institution. Since King’s has a quota, current King’s students in their final year of studies must apply through King’s. Former King’s students who graduated within the past 12 months must also apply through King’s if they have not enrolled in any courses, in any capacity, at another institution, since leaving King’s.

As a small institution, King’s quota of nominations for these awards is quite small (one each for CIHR and SSHRC, and seven for NSERC).

All applications submitted through King’s are adjudicated by the Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) to select the applications to be forwarded to the Federal granting agencies. In order to ensure only the highest quality applications are submitted for review by AAC, each applicant is required to coordinate with a faculty supervisor on her/his application prior to submission. Any student wishing to apply for one of these awards through King’s must submit a Notice of Intent to Apply for Graduate Scholarship by the deadline specified on the form. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
