How Do I Find Articles?

  1. To find journal, magazine, or newspaper articles select a database or collection listed under e-resources.

  2. If you already know the bibliographic information (periodical title, volume, date, author, title, etc) use Find It.

  3. If unsure as to which database or collection to search use one of the Recommended Resources as listed in your subject area first. These are your best options for the topic you have chosen. Click the title of the resource you want to use.

  4. Each resource may appear slightly different, although most will present you with a search box to enter terminology related to your topic.

  5. For more help searching a specific e-resource, look for a "Help" link or icon.

  6. Once you have performed a search, review the results. Each listing should provide you with the article title, journal title, author names, and the date when the article was published.  If a full-text (either HTML or PDF) version of the article is available, you will be presented with a link to it. If not, click the "Find It" link to view other options, as well a form for requesting an Inter Library Loan.

  7. Typically you can review more detailed information about an article by clicking on the title.

How Do I Find Books and Other Materials?

  1. NEOS is a group of 19 libraries in Central and Northern Alberta that share a single online catalogue. To find items in the King’s collection, you need to search this online catalogue.

  2. Go to the main NEOS Catalogue search screen or use the search box at the top of the page.

  3. Enter the title of the book or other relevant keywords (subject keywords, author's name etc.). Typically, the more words you enter, the less results you get. Optional steps:

    • Select title, author, or subject in the "any field" drop-down menu to make your search more specific. "Any field" is the most open-ended option and retrieves the most results.

    • Select the type of material you would like to find (e.g. books, DVDs, etc.) using the "any format" menu.

    • Select The King’s University College Library to limit your results to the King’s collection.

  4. Click "Search". From the results list click on book titles to view their call numbers and availability status. You will need the call number to locate the item in the library.

  5. Check if the item is in the Circulating, Reference, Curriculum, or Music Score collection.

  6. If you need help, contact one of the Library Staff.

Reserve Collection

Faculty may put items for the class on Reserve.   The Reserves are kept behind the Circulation Desk.  You need to go to the Circulation Desk and ask for the item – you will need to know the course name and the title of the item.

Most items are on 2 hour loans.  However, the loan period is set by your faculty member and can be anyway from 1 hour to 1 week.   Most items on hourly loans also go out overnight.  Overnight loans begin 1 hour before library closing and are due back at 8:00 am (or 10:00 am on Saturdays).   The fines for late reserve items are $1.00/hour.  Items must be returned to the basket on the Circulation Desk not the Item Return slot located in the foyer of the library.

Our Reserve items are not available to patrons from other libraries.  Items on Reserve at other libraries are not available to King’s patrons!

Faculty Please Note:
The library staff needs 48 hours to process and enter any items to be placed on Reserve.  Please keep this in mind before asking your students to use Reserve materials.
