Installing gym LEDs calls for the heavy-duty ladder

New LED high-output tubes are being installed for our gymnasium high bay fixtures. LED technology is progressing, and prices are coming down. The new T5 HO tubes are only 28 watts each compared to the 54 watt fluorescent tubes that are being phased out. That equals a 48% reduction in electrical consumption! The Alberta government is also offering a $5 rebate per tube which makes it the perfect time to retrofit.

There are a total of 150 LEDs going into the gym. Assuming the gym lights are on an average of 15 hours per day, we will save $2,135 over a year. The total cost of the project is $1,950. Putting those numbers together, we will have a return on our investment within only 11 months. The other benefit from the new lighting is the CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) reduction, which will come to 15 tonnes annually.
