Coach honoured as 2016-17 ACAC men’s volleyball coach of the year

Edmonton, February 22, 2017 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Phil Dixon, head coach of The King’s University Eagles men’s volleyball team, has been selected by his ACAC coaching peers as the 2016-17 ACAC Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year for the North Division.

The prestigious award was presented to Dixon at the 2017 ACAC Men’s Volleyball Conference Championship Banquet hosted by Red Deer College on February 22, 2017.

“We’re extremely pleased with the accomplishments of the men’s volleyball program,” says Eagles Athletics Director, Grace Scott. “Phil is a tremendous asset not only because of his coaching expertise, but also his emphasis on building character and leadership with his guys. We are so proud of the progress the team has made during the past few years.” The men’s volleyball team has qualified for the ACAC Championships each year in the three years since Dixon has been head coach: finishing fourth in the north in 2014-15, third in 2015-16 and second this season.

Phil has significantly built into an already successful program. Originally an engineer, Phil felt God’s call toward coaching where he could be actively involved in teaching and mentoring young men. Having coached volleyball for over 20 years, Phil took his passion for coaching to the next level, and has been worked hard to gain experience and continue to learn. In the past two years, Phil coached the U16 Alberta Provincial Men’s Team and was part of the coaching staff for the Team Canada Selects, the Top 40 U16/U17 prospects in the country. His desire to pursue excellence in every area of life has made him not only a successful volleyball coach, but an influential leader and role model as well.

The King’s University men’s volleyball team completed the season with a 15-7 win/loss record, finishing league play in second place in the North
