Eagles badminton duo qualify for nationals

Busy weekend sees The King’s University Eagles badminton team head to nationals.

The King’s University Eagles had a busy weekend for badminton on February 10 and 11.

King’s hosted the 2018 Badminton Championships, welcoming the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder, NAIT Ooks, and Olds College Broncos to campus to compete. The Eagles came away from the two days of fierce competition with a trip to nationals.

Abigail Ledda (first-year, biology) and John Li (third-year, psychology) won silver in mixed doubles, advancing them to the Badminton National Championships. This is the Eagles’ first advancement to nationals since joining the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) in badminton in 2014.

Ledda also won silver in women’s singles and the ACAC All Conference. Ledda and Annika Jacobsson (fourth-year, education) won bronze in women’s doubles.

As a team, Eagles badminton won bronze in the championships with a tight score placing them just shy of silver.

Ledda and Li look forward to representing the Eagles at the nationals on March 3 at Concordia.
