Eagles fly through another successful season

Stellar athletic performance, perseverance and determination characterizes the Eagles 2019 - 2020 athletics season.

As the final buzzer sounds, The King’s University Eagles Volleyball, Badminton and Basketball teams wrap up another season of exceptional athletic performance.

Eagles Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams had standout seasons this year leading to appearances at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championship from both teams. Each team fought hard in their matches, with the Men’s team falling short of a medal standing, the Women’s team captured the bronze medal.

“I am honored to truly have the best athletes in the league on my side of the court,” states Patrick Winand, head coach of the Men’s Volleyball team. “I have seen growth in every player, not only in their athletic talents but also in work ethic, academic success and maturity over the course of this season.”

King’s Badminton athletes made a great showing at every tournament this season. With Eagles athletes excelling to placements in every tournament participated in, athletes progressed to the ACAC Championship tournament earning many awards, including silver in men’s singles. Second year athlete, Narayan Ramdhani, is proudly moving forward to represent King’s at the CCAA National Championship in Mississauga this week.

Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams fought through a tough season but continued to demonstrate resilience and maturity both on and off the court. With an average of 74.9 and 59.3 points per game, Men’s and Women’s respectively, Eagles Basketball comes off of a hard-fought season ready to continue working hard with an aim toward continued growth in the future.

“My team grew and matured as men,” explains Matt Barriero, head coach of the Men’s Basketball team. “It was a season filled with adversity but they pulled together to finish strong.”

Eagles athletics also sees excellence in Men’s and Women’s Soccer. The soccer season wrapped up in October 2019 with ACAC Championship appearances from both teams. The Men’s Futsal season continues against Old’s College on March 13th, while Women’s Futsal continues through exhibition matches.
