"And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my saviour." Luke 1: 46 - 47 (Mary's Song)
As we approach the Christmas season, I reflect on Advent and the amazing story leading up to Christ’s birth. Mary was a young teenage girl learning the news that she was going to bear God’s son, Jesus, into the world. If God can choose and equip a humble and ordinary young girl like Mary for such a divine purpose, then how might we be attentive to how God is using us to carry out His work at King’s through our alumni, students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and donors like you?
For example, alumna Juanita Henschel (BMus ‘96, BEd ‘98) is actively living out King’s mission today, impacting the lives of the little children she teaches in her kindergarten classroom. Even 20 years after graduating, Juanita remembers how King’s instilled in her that her faith is part of every aspect of her life. Through her life and work, she has experienced the promise from Jeremiah 29:13 that when we seek Him, we will find Him when we search with all our heart.
God chose Mary to give birth to His son in an unexpected place, like a stable in Bethlehem. Today, He continues to choose alumni like Juanita and people like you and me for His purpose in His story, in unexpected places like King’s.
As Juanita shared at our recent Harvest Banquet, “God’s fingerprints are everywhere, and when we work as justice seekers, beauty creators, God worshipers, community builders, image bearers, we will find Him and leave a legacy of our fingerprints on His story.”
This is exactly what you help us do through King’s, and I believe God has chosen you for a purpose in our work. When you give a gift to King’s or extend the invitation to others to become involved, you leave your fingerprints and create a transformational impression on the students we serve.
By making a gift today, you strengthen King’s story in unexpected places and provide opportunities for our students to be disciples and catalysts for change in the world. This Christmas, the greatest way you can help support Christian university education at King’s is with a gift to the Stewardship Fund. Please consider making a gift towards that fund today.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and joy and peace in the New Year.
