Student Story: Bryce Betcher - Bachelor of Commerce/Travel Abroad Experience
Hello, my name is Bryce Betcher and I am a 4th year Commerce student. This most recent semester I had the fantastic opportunity to partake in a brand new study abroad program that the Leder School of Business just implemented. Being in our last semester, myself and two other students jumped at the opportunity to enrich our educational experience by studying for 3 weeks at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede in Ede, Netherlands. The study abroad program was centred on cross-cultural management. As Commerce students about to graduate and enter the ever increasing globalized business community, we felt there was no better way to get international business and cultural-management skills than experiencing it firsthand overseas. It was an incredible experience overall, as it shaped the way I view international business. I never realized just how diverse and unique different cultures can be. The experience gave me a deep understanding of how I can not only manage people of different cultures, but actually benefit from the diversity. Without actually being immersed into a different culture, I would have never been able to gain these skills and knowledge. I cannot recommend enough that students participate in study abroad programs. It was likely the most challenging, rewarding, and fun experience I have ever had at school. One of the things I love most about King’s is that we are provided with the opportunity and encouraged to participate in these unique experiences. The professors push us to take on these challenges, knowing the impact they will have on us as students and people.
