This Year's Entertainment
This year we are pleased to present Folk-Rock band The Translators. Based out of the Metro Vancouver area, The Translators are a group composed entirely of King’s graduates: Darren Binnema (BSc '12), Ethan van der Leek (BA '13), Danelle Kastelein (BA '11 and BEd '14), Eric Bomhof (BA '17), and Kevin Bandstra (BCom '12).
The Translators had their beginnings in the 2000s, in the living rooms and basements of Surrey, BC, when childhood friends Darren and Ethan began learning guitar and writing music together. When they both started attending King's upon graduating from high school, the band was rounded out with fellow King's students: Kevin (drums), Danelle (piano), and Eric (bass).
Since moving back to the greater Vancouver area, they have continued writing, performing, and, in October 2018, released their debut album Running Restless, featuring songs from the past 10+ years. Their folk-rock music is influenced by the likes of Paul Simon, Neil Young, Josh Ritter, and explores themes of love, faith, doubt, and transportation (namely, trains, and ships). They have very fond memories of their time at King's and look forward to once again sharing their music with the King's community. You can find their music on SoundCloud.
