Valentine's Special

Feb 13, 2015

Hey King’s!

A word that is commonly heard on our campus is community. King's is a place where connecting with people and creating deep, meaningful friendships comes easily. In light of it being Valentine's Day, I decided to highlight 3 wonderful King's couples, including students, staff, and faculty. Check out what they had to say!

Student Couple: Paul & Megan (3rd year Business & 2nd year Sociology)

Their Love Story:

Paul and Megan knew each other throughout junior high but did not start hanging out with each other until high school. Megan confessed to having a crush on him for a long time before they dated but Paul took a little longer to catch on. He finally asked her out while they were on a bike ride in his last year of high school. Now they are in a happy relationship and have been together just shy of 3 years.

How do you guys celebrate Valentines Day?

They usually go for dinner and spend time together.

What is one thing you think is the most important thing to have in a relationship?

Megan: Communication

Paul: Being able to feel comfortable around the other.

Fun Fact:

“We’re getting married this summer!”

Staff Couple: Alison & Shay (Residence Life Coordinator & Alumni)

Their Love Story:

Alison and Shay were in the same year at King’s (2006) and met on move-in day. Shay was the only guy from his high school who came to King’s, and became the only guy in their group of friends. They were good friends all through university but didn’t start dating until Alison graduated. She was overseas in Europe (March 2011) and Shay visited for a week. They started dating in Vienna and got married in July 2013.

How do you guys celebrate Valentines Day?:

“Valentines day usually involves flowers of some sort. Our first year we were in India on a mission trip and went on a double date with another couple to a restaurant on top of a mountain.”

What is one thing you think is the most important thing to have in a relationship?

“Trust and friendship! You need to be able to trust the other pretty much unconditionally to know they have your best interest in mind and wouldn’t do something to hurt you. Having similar values is really important too!”

Fun Fact:

“We have a heart with both of our names painted on the wall of the tower stairwell.”

Faculty Couple: Dr.’s Leah & Darcy (Chemistry Professor & Biology Professor)

Their Love Story:

Darcy and Leah met at King’s in their second semester. They were in the Brain and Behaviour course that doubled as a biology and psychology course (375/364). They didn’t start dating until the end of that semester and have been together ever since - 16 years and have been married for 10 of them!

How do you guys celebrate Valentines Day?:

Darcy: “I despise holidays of all sorts so I am probably not the right person to ask.”

Leah: “I look forward to the time that we celebrate it. It’s going to be a good one, I’m 10 years in the waiting.”

What is one thing you think is the most important thing to have in a relationship?

“Space/Independence. Self-confidence-that you are ok doing your own thing.”

Fun Fact:

Leah: “Darcy will only listen to volumes that are even on TV or radio. They can’t be set to an uneven number.”

Darcy: “Leah can’t swelter a sneeze, it always comes out in full force.”

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day everyone!

Veronica
