Outbreak over. Thank you!
As of this afternoon (Wednesday February 8, 2017) Alberta Health Services has lifted King's "Illness Outbreak" restrictions. We are down to an illness rate of less than 10%, with no new cases of gastrointestinal illness reported since Saturday.
What does this mean? This means that things will be returning to normal. We will be doing one last big cleaning push, as per AHS request.
- The WORKout Centre will be re-opening tomorrow morning at 7:00am
- RA and Group Programming will resume as previously scheduled
- Lounges T-501, T-601, T-701 and the Apartment Lounge will re-open first thing tomorrow morning
- Friday Basketball game open to spectators
Alberta Health Services has commended King’s on its efforts to take this seriously and work diligently to reduce the spread of illness. King's staff were told by AHS officers that 7 days is an impressive timeline for reducing illness to below an outbreak designation.
We want to remind the King's community to continue to use good hygiene practices such as coughing into elbows and washing hands, as well as to continue to keep up good cleaning practices in your personal spaces. If you do become ill, please do stay home to stop transmission. Facilities staff, the LEVEL staff, and the cafeteria staff will maintain increased cleaning levels for the next 7 days in high volume common spaces, high-use touch points, and food service areas.
AHS reminds us that it is still very important for residence students to report illness; while RAs will no longer be doing a daily wellness census, if you do become ill, please report that to your RA.
We want to send out a huge thank you to everyone for their cooperation during this time, and to all of those who put in extra efforts and work over the past week.
