Up to 3 temporary full-time positions for 4 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an architectural technology, or engineering technology, plumbing, heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) or related post-secondary diploma or degree program, commencing in May 2020

Then join the Development Services branch with the City of Edmonton as a summer student. In this position, you will provide a broad range of clerical, administrative, and field services to the management, professional, and technical staff within the section.

Your working knowledge of planning policies, procedures, and business practices will make you the right person to carry out the following responsibilities:
● Review and follow up via phone or email with citizens possessing permits that are in violation of Alberta Building Codes
● Prepare and process (draft, format, and proofread) documents including infraction letters according to City standards for
signatures or approvals, including letters, memos, Council Reports, and attachments
● Provide administrative support, including responding to telephone, email and/or in-person inquiries, directing inquiries,
and distributing information as required to provide quality customer service
● Administer a filing system and ensure document management, retention, disposition, and distribution of documents
adheres to all FOIP requirements and records management procedures
● Conduct research on current developing plans under supervision
● Support with site visits and fieldwork where possible
● Other related duties as required

Qualifications :
● Currently enrolled in an architectural technology, or engineering technology, plumbing, heating ventilation air conditioning
(HVAC) or related post-secondary diploma or degree program
● Knowledge of Alberta Building Code 2014
● Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor
● Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
● Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps
● Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
● Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)

Salary: $17.954 - $19.749 (Hourly)
