Neighborhood Parkland Events Liaison Summer Student

1 temporary full-time position for 4 months commencing in May 2020, intended specifically for students currently attending an education, community development, recreation administration, kinesiology, or related post-secondary degree program
Reporting to the Parkland Usage and Events Committee of Neighbourhood Services Section in Community Standards and Neighbourhoods Branch, this position will provide support for the section with respect to special events that utilize neighbourhood park spaces. The position will ensure that City of Edmonton policies and procedures are communicated to external groups that are
organizing and staging these high impact neighbourhood events.
Responsibilities Include:
● Receive and review event applications
● Attend meetings with event organizers and internal business units (section, district operations, parkland usage & events committee)
● Communicate requirements, procedures and policies to groups
● Complete necessary administrative functions to provide licenses for Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator to review
● Lead communication to internal business units that may be affected by events
● Liaise with multiple Neighbourhood Resource Coordinators that work in the communities that the events are hosted in
● General liaison between the City and Community
● Attend special events/festivals on certain weekends and monitor, record and report on event outcomes
● Capture community-based animation stories at events
● Update and create new templates for Activities on Parkland (Tents, Stages, Combo Request, Liquor, Sleighs, Wagons, Train Rides, Petting Zoo, Smoking/Vaping, Drones, Car Shows, Outdoor Movies)
● Plan social events for the section
● Participate in the Summer Student Conference
● Other related duties as required

Qualifications :
● Currently attending an education, community development, recreation administration, kinesiology, or related post-secondary degree program
● Flexibility to work in both an indoor office setting and outdoor on-site work
● Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis with proven attention to detail
● Familiarity with Google Applications
● Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange your own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
● Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
● Experience with recreation, sport or community event organization
● Familiarity or previous experience with contracts
● Experience with facility booking software

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, ability to work events on weekends and holidays as required
Salary: $19.749 - $25.135 (Hourly)
