Full Time Private Teaching Opportunity

Are you looking for a small learning environment to really connect with your students?
Do you love artistic, holistic, and outdoor teaching opportunities?
This opportunity is to teach 2 students in person, full time in a private home. The students
are in grades 4 and 6 for the 2021/22 school year. The family has been using Waldorf
curriculum and wishes to continue in this format, so an interest to learn about this pedagogy
is required. No learning/social/health needs are p resent in the children. The home is set in a n
acreage subdivision near Sherwood Park, which provides ample opportunity for experiential
learning.
Waldorf “main lessons” include story telling from ancient cultures Language arts standards
are derived from this content. Main lessons provide opportunities for social studies (religion, geography), and even math standards can be integrated into main lesson format by
using characters and topics from stories to deliver a lesson on fractions, money, time, etc.
Waldorf specialty classes include: fine arts, nature studies ( music, languages, eurythmy, (intentional body movement), handwork (knitting/ cross stitch, felting, doll/toy making, etc), and form drawing. If the lead teacher does not have the skill to teach these subjects, the family has many online resources available that the lead teacher can use to present the specialty topic and act in supervision of a prerecorded specialty lesson, online group lesson, or in person tutor/instructor.
Teachers with the ability to teach French and/or handwork will be given priority consideration.
The school year will be 33 3 4 weeks long, with the ability to set preferred weeks off according to
the teacher/family needs. STATS, PD days and a quarterly 1 week breaks will be observed, but
not early dismissals.
The lead teacher will be responsible for main lesson daily planning and delivery, grading and
written progress reporting twice for the year.
School will be delivered 5 days a week, with one of the days being focused more on artistic and
hands on learning ( science experiments, outdoor learning, field trips, etc The school
day is 8 hours, with 2x1 hour breaks. Temporary need to move to online format is possible to
accommodate snow days, isolation requirements, etc.
Salary will be given a monthly rate as an independent contractor $42 000 for a 1 year contract
Start date is flexible, but preferably by end of May or mid June 2021 to ensure ample planning
time before school commences in late August or early September. Curriculum resources will be
provided by the family.
New graduates are welcome to apply. The successful candidate must have their own
transportation be punctual and reliable, and be self motivated.
