Position Summary:
As a Student Intern, you will have an opportunity to join a facilities management team and gain real world experience in a setting.  You will be expected to:

  • Develop a Sustainability Policy and Program.
  • Identify projects and prioritize them into a 3-year plan.
  • Develop skills vital to your career as an Environmental Studies graduate.
  • Be passionate about the environment.

Accountabilities:

As a member of a project team you may be required to:

  • Create an overarching program and strategy for sustainability in The King’s University (King’s) organizations with an accompanying mission or vision and clear operating principles, quality management, assurance, and regular audit requirements.
  • Develop policies that ensure compliance with regulations and identify costs and benefits associated with implementing sustainable practices in King’s.
  • Engage with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that their input is reflected in King’s sustainability policy.
  • Review previous project reports and audit assessments and create short and long-range operational plans that incorporate the recommended sustainability practices.
  • Develop educational material on emerging trends, programs, and issues in sustainability.
  • Implement “quick win” sustainable activities such as recycling, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
  • Develop and implement systems to measure the progress of sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify fundraising opportunities to support sustainability projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Completed 2nd year of a university program with a focus in environmental studies is preferable.
  • Strong research, logic, and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and industry trends quickly.
  • Self-motivated and willing to pitch in on all tasks.
  • Team player.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of project management practices.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of policy and program development is desirable.
