Community and Employment Facilitator

We are seeking a part-time (20 hrs/week) Community and Employement Facilitator to assist a young adult with Developmental Disabilities, who has recently completed their studies at NAIT, to live a full and active life. The Community Inclusion Facilitator will be guided by the goals and objectives determined in collaboration with the individual and our family.

Responsibilities

Community Support:

  • Facilitating meaningful participation in a wide range of community interests, including kickball & bowling
  • Identify new opportunities and activities of interest to the individual in their community and help facilitate their involvement
  • Facilitating relationships amongst peer groups and ensure existing relationships are supported
  • Assisting our family member to contribute to and benefit from all aspects of community life
  • Actively collaborating with and positive support of team members, including supportive roommates
  • Engage in regular communication with the family and other team members

Employment Support:

  • Network and collaborate with business owners, managers, employers, and other community members to develop job and career opportunities
  • Support employers and co-workers on job sites to ensure positive employment experiences for everyone involved
  • Provide on the job support to the individual as required
  • As 1:1 support is phased out, ensure regular communication with employers & coworkers
  • Engage in regular communication with the family and other team members

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Deep abiding commitment to supporting families and community living
  • A steadfast belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate and contribute to the community
  • The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time management skills and excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of community resources available to support the person’s participation and inclusion within their community
  • Availability to work daytime, with occasional evenings and weekends. 
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle with applicable insurance
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Recent Police Check (within the last 6 months)

An industry competitive salary is offered of  $21.71 per hour.
