Research Assistant for Dr. Caroline Lieffers: This position is for 78.5 hours of work. The hours are flexible and the work can be done remotely, but it must be completed by September 30, 2024 (ideally sooner). The RA will be responsible for transcribing handwritten archival injury registers into a searchable database. The rate of pay is $16 per hour.

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will transcribe handwritten injury registers into an online database. The Research Assistant must:
- Be responsible, self-motivated, diligent, and a good communicator
- Be able to read early twentieth-century handwriting with relative ease
- Have access to a computer and a high-quality internet connection

Qualifications

The RA should have some experience with historical research and reading historic handwriting.

Game Day Staff, Minor Officials
Athletics

  • Work during some or all of our home Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, or Running events.
  • Work in 1 of many various game day positions (Scoresheet, Scoreclock, Statistics, Announcing, Ball Roller, Concession and Admission)
  • Host visiting players, spectators, and coaches to ensure game day experience is enjoyable and running smoothly.
  • Set up and take down home game event (nets, balls, bleachers, tables, etc)
  • Join one of the best on campus student work experiences King's has to offer! An exciting and challenging atmosphere, but one that is made an awesome one while being around like minded students! Responsibilities

  • Attend and work all requested home game days.

Izzy The Eagle Mascot

  • Hours will Vary - Attend home volleyball, basketball, and some soccer as needed by the athletics department. Other departments may also request Izzy to be a part of their events (Alumni, admissions, open house, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain anonymity - your identity should not be known to the public.
  • Embody the character of Izzy - mannerisms, energy level, etiquette.
  • Lead game day crowds in chants, build energy in breaks during the games (timeouts, etc.)
  • Regular Maintenance of Izzy Suit (helmet, wings, shoes, etc).
  • 1-2 workers needed.
  • Height Preference: 5'8"-6'0"

Volunteer Media Student - Men's Soccer

  • Run the social media for men's soccer team (Instagram), creating posts, stories, and reels of the team
  • Hours: Flexible - attend 2-3 events (practices, games) per week.

Admissions Office Student Worker
Admissions

The Admissions Office Student Worker will support King’s Admissions Office in engaging and assisting prospective students and community members. Under the supervision of the Advising Manger, the student worker will respond to phone and email inquiries, provide reception coverage, implement mailing campaigns, provide campus and residence tours, and update and maintain information databases, including Admissions Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, called Slate. The student worker will also highlight campus life through regular blog posts, assist in event preparation, and provide other office support as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to prospective student inquiries via telephone, email, in-person visits, and Slate.
  • Provide reception coverage for the Admissions Office.
  • Provide campus and residence tours for individual student visits, visiting groups, and campus visit events.
  • Manage general inbox
  • Assist in various research projects on how to better communicate with students.
  • Ensure great customer service in all interactions.

Database Management

  • Input, update, and maintain accuracy of student and organization information in Slate.

Administration Support

  • Prepare mailing campaigns, including: exporting list of addressees and mail merging and printing labels and letters, as well as assembling mail out packages.
  • Attend to returned mail and address updates.
  • Organize and restock the storage room.
  • Take inventory of publications and swag.
  • Assist in preparations for on and off campus events, as needed.
  • May be required to lift or move items up to 50 lbs.
  • Miscellaneous Admissions Office duties, as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  •  A full-time returning King’s student in good academic standing.
  • Effective and flexible customer service attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work with a variety of communication methods, notably telephone, email, and mail.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications and databases. Proficiency with mainstream social media platforms, blogging, and website software an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
  • A self-starter who is comfortable with both working independently and in collaboration.
  • Willingness to learn the process of engaging prospective students.


Remuneration will be partially based on past experience, but will start at Step 1, Level 1 of the Student Salary Scale.

The Admissions Office Student Worker will be expected to work 10 hours per week for the 14 weeks of the Fall and Winter Terms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in laboratory set up.
  • Assisting students in the laboratory by answering questions and providing support with procedures and/or instrument use
  • Maintaining a safe working environment, observing of all WHMIS and other laboratory safety protocols
  • Assist in laboratory clean up.
  • Attend planned course fieldtrips when significant field or laboratory activities will be taking place.

Teaching Assistants should not:

  • Grade student work
  • Have access to student marks or information beyond a list of student names
  • Work with students unless under the direct supervision of the instructor
  • Meet with students outside of the laboratory session

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have successfully completed (minimum grade of B+) the course they will TA. Equivalent course competency will be considered, for example a senior student majoring in a discipline could be considered for a non-majors course. For example, a 3rd year biology major would be suitable as a TA for BIOL290.
  • Good interpersonal skills and professional attitude
  • Candidate must be available during the time the lab is offered. Typically, this is three hours per week
  • Candidate must be available for a short meeting with the staff/faculty member teaching the lab to learn details of the weekly lab
  • Responsible for completing lab safety training as required. For example, students might need to complete the biosafety or chemistry safety quiz
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be a fulltime King’s student in at least their 2nd year

Under the supervision of the course/laboratory instructor, a Marking Assistant will grade assignments, quizzes, and/or laboratory assignments.

Marking Assistant Positions:

Responsibilities

  • Assigning grades to assignments, quizzes, or laboratories in a course
  • Maintaining good communication with the instructor of the course
  • Following guidance from the instructor for assigning marks, with or without a formal rubric
  • Completing marking assignments in a reasonable time-period (typically 72 hours). The role typically requires between 4–8 hours per week, depending on the marking assignment and course/laboratory enrolment.
  • Returning the graded assignments to the instructor
  • Being fair and impartial in assigning marks
  • Must disclose any conflict of interest that may arise due to these duties (for example, making the instructor aware if the marker has a sibling or close friend in the course for which they are marking)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality about their role as a Marking Assistant and student grades

Marking Assistants should not:

  • Be returning physical copies of assignments
  • Be asked to consider requests from students to justify marking decisions
  • Meet with students to give feedback on assignments or to provide help sessions
  • Grade midterm or final examinations
  • Have access to student marks or information beyond a list of student names
  • Be given access to course grades other than those they are responsible for
