Many of us acknowledge that there have been one or more older women who has been a significant and positive influence. This exhibit celebrates some of those women-- examples of faithful, virtuous, and whole-hearted living.
Each student chose someone-- often an actual grandmother-- to represent, and built a life- size portrait bust based on photographs and biographical information about that person.
In creating these pieces, the students tackled the challenges of portraiture-- conveying age, gender, race, socio-economic status, historical period, and personality. They needed to convey expressive movement, solve anatomical problems, build a stable structure, and manage a wide array of texture and paint application techniques. Five 3-hour lab sessions were dedicated to the project.
