This course addresses practical aspects of teaching music in an elementary school setting, including pedagogical issues surrounding different current methodologies, additional focus on music learning within a Kodaly context, and the place of music within the school culture. Lab hours will focus on peer teaching activities and observation.

MUSI 338 - Secondary Music Education Methods
This course explores different approaches to music education in junior and senior high school settings, with emphasis on methods and materials for instrumental, choral, and general music classes. Pedagogical issues include the balance between aural and notational approaches to music, and the integration of performance with music theory, musicology and composition. Practical issues include curriculum development and implementation, plus the operation of a music program, including instrumentation, facilities, and music library organization. Lab hours will focus on peer teaching activities and observation.
