Politics - History - Economics
Do you have a passion for all things political? Modeled after the acclaimed and widely recognized "Philosophy, Politics and Economics major at Oxford University, the PHE program is a unique interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare students for all types of work related to the 'public sphere.'
Why study three disciplines in one degree? Because becoming an effective figure in public life requires an integrated and balanced knowledge of all three disciplines.
Politics brings an understanding of power relations in society. It informs on the ideas and structures that shape power relations, and the role of government in resolving them. Politics looks at how ideologies, institutions, and convictions contribute to greater or lesser justice in the fabric of public life.
History cultivates an understanding of the origins and causes of contemporary public issues. Through history students can gain greater insight into the roots of western and world civilizations, how cultures are formed, the manner in which powerful economic and political actors shape public life, and the ideological and religious ideas shaping our times.
Economics prepares students to dig into the powerful drive exerted on society and its institutions by economic forces. It studies how we steward resources and ecosystems sustainably and for public good, and how economic policies affect individual and societal choices.
Graduates of King's PHE program have found careers working in public politics, the public service, social justice organisations, economic policy, journalism, international development, business, and social services.
