Tyler Shannon: Urban Forestry

During his summer Environmental Studies internship, Tyler worked for the City of Edmonton performing tree inventory and health assessments with the Urban Forestry department.

His role with the department consisted of many different tasks including using GIS software in the field to update the City’s inventory of trees by adding trees that were removed and inputting new plantings. Tyler also assisted with the City's Arbour Day program by teaching grade one students about trees and their important ecological significance.

Tyler also served alongside the City of Edmonton's Inventory and Assessment team by assessing the health of all of city trees south of the river—looking for, identifying, and documenting any diseases on the various species of trees, and recording dead trees in need of removal.
