I was privileged enough to complete my Environmental Studies internship working for the City of Edmonton. Most of what I did involved performing tree inventory and health assessments with the Urban Forestry department.
"This internship was such a blessing, I would not have been able to do this work without King's."
I really got so many chances to grow in this internship! I was fortunate enough to perform many different tasks including using GIS software in the field to update the City's inventory of trees by adding trees that were removed and inputting new plantings. I also assisted with the City's Arbour Day program by teaching grade one students about trees and their important ecological significance.
In addition to this, I got the opportunity to serve alongside the City of Edmonton's Inventory and Assessment team by assessing the health of all of the city trees south of the river. We were tasked with looking for, identifying, and documenting and diseases on the various species of trees, and recording dead trees in need of removal.
