Moving into residence
Fall 2017 new and transfer student move in day: Thursday, August 31
Move-in is between 9:30 to 4:00pm. Mandatory floor meetings will be held on each floor at 7:00pm that evening to introduce the floor’s residence assistant and share important residence information. A residence wide social event will follow. Please plan to arrive and move into your residence room within the move-in hours and attend your floor meeting in the evening. Orientation and parent orientation begins on Friday, September 1.
Fall 2017 Returning student move in day
Friday, September 1 & Monday, September 4
Move in is between 9:30 to 4:00pm on both days. Please plan to arrive on campus and check into your residence room within these hours. Confirmation must be completed before you may check in. Suite and Apartment floor meetings will be held at 7:00pm on September 4.

The tower residence will be closed from December 20, 2016 until January 2, 2017. There will be no student access to the Residence during this time so residents must remember to take all belongings home with them.
The apartment residence is not closed for Christmas break, but all residents are required to post their leaving and return dates on their doors. Students who decide to remain in the apartments over Christmas are reminded that staff will not be available.
Students not returning as a student for the winter semester must contact Alison Exner to facilitate a move out date before the Christmas break.
Tower residence Christmas eco-checkouts
All tower residents are required to complete an eco-checkout before leaving for Christmas break. The tower residence is closed for Christmas break and students will not have access to the residence. All tower residents must leave within 24 hours of their last exam or by 12:00 noon on the day following the end of the exam period (whichever comes first).
Eco-checkouts are an opportunity residents to ensure their rooms are fulfilling community cleanliness standards and are prepared for an extended absence. Eco-checkouts are completed by both roommates, with the last roommate to leave being responsible for the final check. It is up to each roommate to ensure their space is prepared for their absence.
The following areas should be checked during an eco-checkout:
- Windows closed
- Lights off
- Fan off
- Appliances unplugged
- Taps not dripping/toilets not running
- Room cleaned
- Garbage emptied/recyclables removed
- Fridge cleared of perishables
All dripping taps, running toilets, and rattling fans should be reported to facilities via email (email@example.com) before the eco-checkout occurs. Students returning to residence for the winter semester do not need to remove their belongings for Christmas break.

Residence deposit deadline
Residence deposits are due June 15 to guarantee a spot in residence for the fall semester. Residence deposits are $500.00 and non-refundable. Click for more information on residence applications and deposits.
From February 20 to 24, no classes are held for a Spring reading week. Students are welcome to remain in residence during the break. Often, students take the opportunity to go home or travel.
Moving out of Residence
Students moving out of Residence are required to do a formal check out within 24 hours of finishing their last exam in the Winter Semester. Students should consult their exam schedule when planning to move out.
Residents who are not returning as students for the winter semester must contact the residence life coordinator as early as possible to make a formal check out appointment before the Christmas break. The requirements for the move out process are the same for residents who leave King's after the fall semester.

Students moving out of residence are required to do a formal check out with a Residence Life team member. This check out compares the recorded condition of your room at move in to the condition at move out. Each roommate does their own checkout with a residence team member, with charges in common areas split between all roommates.
Check outs consist of inspecting the room for damages and cleanliness. At this point, students must be ready to return their room key. Students are charged for any damages, cleaning requirements, and missing items (including a lost key). All belongings must be removed from the room at the time of checkout.
When preparing for check out, students must leave enough time for cleaning once their belongings are moved out. Use the downloadable checklist to make sure you don't miss anything when you are cleaning. Residence staff will complete your electronic check out during your check out appointment. A copy of the checkout report will be emailed to you immediately after submitting the report.
