Get involved in YOUR King's community
One of the most common misconceptions heard on campus about commuter students is that we don't get involved and therefore, it's harder for us to become a part of the King's community.
This is in fact a myth!
Commuters can be found actively involved in all sorts of ways including but not limited to the events hosted by the commuter program. For example, our Student Association (SA) is responsible for running the many clubs on campus. ( As an aside, some of them are commuters - that's involvement for you!).
The annual King's Club Fair in the Level on Friday, September 23rd. We have over 23 clubs that encompass a variety of topics and interests. The clubs range from athletics to academic clubs and many more in between. They are run by students for students!
A full list of clubs can be found on the SA website (www.TKUSA.ca). Click on the 'clubs' link found underneath the 'Get Involved' tab on the home page. To wet your appetite, here's a few of the clubs from last years club fair!
- The King's Rugby Club: A fun filled athletics club focusing on learning the skills of the game of Rugby whilst playing against various teams throughout the year.
- Swinging 360 Club: This club focuses on working toward building a passion for swing dancing in a safe and community based environment.
- Micah Action and Awareness Students Society(MASS): This club works in conjunction with the Micah Centre to raise awareness about social justice issues occurring in Edmonton, the surrounding area and the globe.
- Super Smash Bros Club: This club strives to foster community building and facilitate stress relief through playing Super Smash Bros. and forging friendships in the process.
Don't see a club you want to join? Create your own!
There are application forms in the SA office (last door on your left as you enter the LEVEL) or you can download an application form online through the SA website (www.TKUSA.ca) and follow the same steps as noted above. Then click the link underneath 'Start a Club' on the left side of the page.
I look forward to seeing you on the 23 September!
