King's Steps into Health Sciences with New Bachelor of Kinesiology

Announcing the launch of The King’s University's Bachelor of Kinesiology. The program equips students for careers in recreation, athletic performance, and health science and builds upon King’s strong reputation in the natural and social sciences.

“Students who have a passion for sport and exercise will learn about the beauty of human motion through this program,” says Dr. Kris Ooms, Vice President of Academics and Research. “King’s is bringing a Christ-centred perspective to the field of kinesiology by exploring how God created the human body, and how motion and exercise can be acts of worship.”

The B.Kin. program expands on King’s existing offerings in kinesiology. Collaborative classes, robust hands-on learning, and state-of-the-art labs are key features of the program.

“We’re emphasizing in-classroom experiences that help students find and develop their passions,” says Dr. Ki-Yong An, newly-named chair of King’s kinesiology department. “Kinesiology is a fun program, and I think students will enjoy exploring topics like exercise physiology, research methods, and many other areas.”

At King’s, the program stresses holistic connections between physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. Program instructor Dallas Ansell describes how students at King’s study kinesiology through the lens of sociology, psychology, and history as well as through clinical science.

“These are the forces that shape how we live, lead, and belong,” he says. “When meshed with a faith perspective, this program encourages students to think more deeply about their health and the health of their communities.”

King’s is uniquely positioned to empower students to live out their studies with a service mindset.

“Kinesiology is really about community,” says An. “This new program equips students to combine scientific knowledge with Christian compassion so that they can become agents of hope, healing, and restoration in the world.”
