How To Stay Healthy This Term

As students, it is important that we stay healthy and go to class. With our busy schedules, it can be difficult to think about our health and how important it is. 

Here are 5 easy steps to keep healthy this term, improve your mood, and help your grades!

 Sleep: We have all heard the, "Get 7-9 hours of sleep every night" and wondered if it applies to everyone.  Whilst the amount may vary, the need for a good night's sleep does not. Set a sleep schedule. If you want to be in bed by 10:00pm, make sure you get everything done before then and don't freak out if you don't have it done. Consistency is key in university. Did you know getting extra sleep can boost your memory? 

 Water: 8 cups of water everyday!

Staying hydrated is so important during busy months. Did you know that even the littlest amount of dehydration can alter your focus in class? Buy a water bottle from the book store and take it to class with you.

Exercise: 60 minutes of exercise everyday!

Not only does exercise improve your physical fitness, it also improves you cognitive function, and boosts your mood. Research shows that exercise actually stimulates brain cells and regulates stress. Even an hour of walking can be beneficial!

Food: Nobody wants to gain the freshman 15. Society is obsessed with body image and the need to lose weight but this is about being healthy more than how we look.  The wrong food too often makes you gain weight but the right food can help you lose weight   The right food such as veggies, (put Kale in your smoothie), protein, (try a chicken salad, eggs for breakfast or chickpeas in your curry), dairy (a yummy yogurt, ice-cream for a treat) and don't forget carbs. Have a cookie. Your deserve it!

Organization: Ever hear, "The state of your bedroom reflects your mind"? 

Start by tidying your room.  Now it's not a distraction and you can find stuff!  Then you can move on to organizing your school schedule. If you need help with combing your syllabus, ask a friend, ask a CPA! (Commuter Program Assistant).
