Next week from March 14th to 18th, it is our annual, 'Celebrate King’s Week' with snacks, games, and prizes given away throughout the week! Since this is an annual event, it really got me thinking about traditions and what they mean to people.
What are traditions? Why do we have them? What are so great about them?
Traditions keep people together.
My family lives all over Alberta, so we don't see each other very often, but every year we have a tradition of going out to the lake and fellowshipping together and catching up on each others' lives.
Traditions can be a way to bring diverse people together.
Traditions can be traced back as far as can be recorded but there is also opportunity to start new traditions. Like eating a salad once a week! If you start small, you can get other people involved too!
Traditions can give you a rhythm to your year.
Every New Year's Eve, my family goes to watch fireworks with our close friends, and then go play board games until unreasonable hours of the night. I look forward to this every year. I get invitations to other events, but I would not miss this tradition for the world. I don't see these family friends often so it is always a time of year that I look forward to. It is a special time of the year.
Do you have any traditions? I would really like to hear about them!
