6 Creative Small Businesses in Edmonton

Jun 26, 2020

A positive aspect of this time at home is the spike in creativity that I see going around. I have witnessed some local small businesses booming with items that they have designed and made by hand and are selling for a really good price!

Most of these small businesses offer free contactless delivery and/or provide shipping options so that those who do not live in Edmonton can enjoy their pieces too. I love the aspect of supporting a small business because when we buy their products, we can appreciate how much hard work goes into making each product special for the person ordering it.

Re:Plenish
I recently found out about this local business and I fell in love with it! They offer zero waste products. You’ll find everything from home and kitchen care items to personal care items. They also offer refills using the bottles that you purchase from them. They are located in Edmonton but offer home deliveries which you can find more about on their website.

Maybe Illustrations
If you’re looking for something to put on your walls and desks or looking to gift someone something personal, Mel from Maybe Illustrations hand draws and paints your portraits! She can also do drawings of you and your pet. All you have to do is send in a picture you want her to recreate and away she goes! She even adds in a frame for you. She also does free contactless delivery if you live in Edmonton. I already have four pieces lined up for her to do for me! You can find her page on Instagram.

More Than a Fad
Another really fantastic small business is More Than a Fad, also found on Instagram. They sell gently used or never worn items for super cheap prices. The best part is that when you purchase the item, 100% of the proceeds go to supporting women and children at Adeara Recovery Centre.

Shop.Gikan
Gikan: to come from. We are taking it back to my roots for this small local business. Gikan is a Philippine talent and creative business that makes tops, bags, and accessories. They do this to preserve and cultivate Philippine culture with the products that they make. You can also find them on Instagram and they ship Canada-wide!

Bea_babydollsbakes
For all my sweets lovers out there, if you’re looking for a cake to celebrate a birthday, graduation, or special event (or just want to have a cake to yourself!), I highly recommend this small local cake business! Bea custom creates cakes from letters, to words, to numbers. You can check out her Instagram page for more pictures of her work.

Lauren.Bohnet.Built
Last but not least, Lauren from this small business hand makes clay earrings to fit your style! She offers delivery and pickup in Edmonton and mailing is available to outside of Edmonton. She has various styles that you can pick from and the fun part is you get to choose your color pallet. If you want to go for an ombre styled piece, she can do that for you. If you’re feeling a little polka-dotty, there’s options for you too! Check out her Instagram page for more designs waiting for you to scoop them up.

I am in awe at the incredible talent, creativity, and impact that these businesses have. This is the kind of positive energy we need in the world right now. It’s about helping and supporting each other when we all need it the most. I hope you enjoy these small local businesses as much as I do and I can’t wait for you to start rocking the styles, products, and food you try from them!

Yours truly,
Bianca
