Nov 14, 2019

If the cold is getting too much for you, have no fear because this student blogger has some tips for you! Keep healthy this winter by trying some new exercises! I know exercising isn’t for everybody, but there are lots of different options to choose from. You might find one you like! I’ll also share some tips on how to stay healthy this winter. Let’s beat the freeze!

Exercise Option #1: Yoga
If you like a calmer form of exercise, yoga is the way to go! Yoga allows you to alleviate any tension and stress that you have in your body and in your mind.

Exercise Option #2: Dance
There are lots of community recreation centres around Edmonton that offer drop-in dance classes to keep you on your feet! One option you can try is Zumba classes at the Millwoods Recreation Centre!

Exercise Option #3: Swim
Swimming is one of the best ways that you can involve yourself in cardio. If running isn’t for you, try this out!

Exercise Option #4: Climb
If you like outdoor activities but get held back because it’s too cold outside, there are various rock climbing and bouldering gyms in Edmonton! Try Vertically Inclined Rock Gym or Rock Jungle Boulders!

Health Tip #1:  Stay Hydrated
The winter season can definitely be a drying time for your skin so make sure to drink lots of water!

Health Tip #2: Wash Your Hands
In order to stay away from the cold and flu season this winter, wash your hands often!

Health Tip #3: Vitamins
We don’t always get a lot of sun in the winter so consider looking into some vitamin D supplements. To keep your health up, make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C too!

Health Tip #4: Flu Shots
As much as I hate needles, sometimes they are necessary to stay healthy. This is a necessity! Flu shots can protect you from influenza viruses, and also protects members of the community that can’t get their flu shot for health reasons. Remember, the influenza virus is not the same as the stomach flu. An estimated 3500 Canadians lose their lives to influenza every year, so it’s important that you get vaccinated!

Four exercise options and four tips to stay healthy in the winter right at your fingertips! It is important to remember that exercise doesn’t mean you have to vigorously run all the time. It’s all about getting your heart rate up! That’s why each of these suggestions are a great exercise option. If none of these work out for you, let me know what your favourite form of exercise is so I can try that too!

Yours Truly,
Bianca
