Internships

An internship is an important part of the requirements for business students and takes place in either year 3 or 4 of the program. It provides balance to students’ theoretical classroom learning by providing practical, hands-on learning.

With many industry, government, and non-profit partners in Edmonton, Canada, and around the world, internships allow students to expand their horizons, develop new skills, and increase their confidence. At the same time, students have opportunities to introduce new ideas and creativity into a workplace and grow their professional network.

Internship Details

Typically business internships are set up as full-time jobs that last throughout the spring and summer terms. Some internship opportunities are available throughout the school year on a part-time basis. The minimum requirement for each internship is 160 hours at no fewer than 10 hours per week, either paid or unpaid.

The rate of pay and hours of work are negotiated between the student intern and the employer. If the internship is unpaid volunteer work, it is still necessary for an employer to provide a structured work environment consisting of a scheduled calendar of work hours and consistent lines of reporting.
