External Scholarships

The AltaLink Indigenous Student Awards

Deadlines: November 1, 2020, February 1, 2021, and August 2021

AltaLink provides eight scholarships of $1,000 to students who are leaders in the Aboriginal community. This includes students from treaty 6, 7 and 8, and from the Métis community. AltaLink will pick winners based on financial need, scholastic achievement, community involvement, and life goals.


St. John's Legacy Scholarship

Deadline: May 14, 2021

St. John's Legacy offers a number of scholarships between $500 and $4,500. One year, King’s students won a total of $40,000 between thirteen students—one of the highest amounts in the country. To apply, students must have a B grade average. They must also provide a description of extracurricular activities such as employment, volunteer hours, sports, or wilderness activities. This scholarship is not limited to any one program.


Peter Elzinga Family Foundation

Deadline: June 1, 2021

The Peter Elzinga Foundation awards Alberta Students yearly bursaries of $600 to $2000. The Foundation awards bursaries based on financial need, community involvement and leadership skills.


Shim Law Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2021

Shim Law is offering a $1,000 scholarship to who creates the best infographic on employment law. Visit their website to pick a topic.


AWSN scholarships

Deadline: June 30, 2021

AWSN will give $3,000 to a student entering their third or fourth you of a science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics degree. Applicants are required to submit 3 essays and must upload a reference letter to speak to the applicant’s leadership demonstration. King’s students have won this award in past years!


Sunlite Mortgage Scholarship

Deadline: June 15, 2021

Sunlight has a $1,000 scholarship to fulfil a Canadian or American student’s dream of higher education. To be eligible, applicants must write an essay discussing how COVID has affected the mortgage market or what your education goals are.


Indspire’s Post-Secondary Education Scholarship 

Applications accepted year round

Indspire disburses bursaries and scholarships through its Building Brighter Futures program to Indigenous students who are enrolled in post-secondary programs. Since 1985, Indspire has disbursed bursaries and scholarships to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis post-secondary students. It is the largest funder for Indigenous education outside of the federal government.
